My main occupation at the University of Düsseldorf is as a researcher in INF: Service Project for Information Infrastructure in DFG Collaborative Research Centre 991: The Structure of Representations in Language, Cognition, and Science (DFG-Sonderforschungsbereich 991: Die Struktur von Repräsentationen in Sprache, Kognition und Wissenschaft) and in the ZIM (Zentralen Innovationsprogramm Mittelstand) project Entwicklung innovativer Technologien zur Erkennung von jugendgefährdenden Inhalten im Internet funded by the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Technologie (BMWi).

I took part in the BMBF project Ontoverse and in several projects of the DFG Research Unit 600 Functional Concepts and Frames.

During the years my research interests stretched from Historical-Comparative Indo-European Linguistics through Network Morphology, Role and Reference Grammar and Functional Cocepts & Frames to Computational Linguistics, in particular Dependency Grammar Parsing, Information Extraction & Information Retrieval, Ontologies in Linguistics and Finite State Morphology.

Before I came to Germany, I spent 12 years in Finland where I worked as a lecturer of Bulgarian at the University of Helsinki, Department of Slavonic and Baltic Languages and Literatures and as a senior computational linguist for Connexor.

However, my professional life started in my country of origin - Bulgaria, at the University of Sofia where I completed my PhD studies at the Department of General, Indo-European and Balkan Linguistics and worked as a lecturer of Bulgarian at the Department of Bulgarian Language for 11 years.
